Choosing a bricklayer
Bricklayers build and repair brick and block walls, extensions, openings and external features. Accurate setting-out, suitable materials and coordination with structural details, damp protection and insulation all affect the quality of the finished masonry.
Before you appoint someone
Ask to see work with a similar bond, joint and brick type. Confirm who supplies setting-out and structural information, how new work ties to the existing building, and how weather protection, scaffolding and cleaning are covered.
Compare quotations against the same written brief, including materials, access, preparation, waste, timescale and making good. Keep the agreed scope and later changes in writing, and avoid paying the full balance before the work and promised handover documents are complete.
