Cancellation & Refund Policy

Last updated: July 2026

Who this applies to. builder.tools is available to both businesses and consumers. Some rights below apply only to consumers (individuals acting outside their trade, business, or profession) under UK law; where that's the case, it's stated. Business customers are not covered by consumer cooling-off rights, and the terms apply to them as written.

Your consent to immediate access. When you start a trial or subscription, you expressly request and consent to immediate access to builder.tools, and you acknowledge that the service begins straight away. Consumers: you understand that once you begin using the service to generate, export, or download work, you lose your right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. This does not affect your rights where the service is faulty or not as described.

The policy

  1. Cancellation: You can cancel your subscription at any time. To avoid being charged for the next billing cycle, you must cancel before your renewal date.
  2. Consumer cooling-off (consumers only): If you are a consumer, you have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of your first payment. This right is lost once you have consented to immediate access and begun generating, exporting, or downloading work (see above). Business customers are not entitled to this cooling-off period.
  3. Goodwill refund window: In addition to any statutory rights, we offer a refund within the first 7 days of your first payment, subject to the conditions below.
  4. Subscription renewals: Refunds are not offered for subscription renewals.
  5. Exclusions for generated work: No refund is provided once you have generated, exported, or downloaded quotes, estimates, or documents from the tools — except where the output fails to meet your needs due to a specific, demonstrable issue with the software, or where the service is faulty or not as described.
  6. Requesting a refund: Refund requests must be submitted by email to contact@builder.tools within the eligibility period, including your account information and the reason for the refund.
  7. Issue reporting: You are eligible for a refund if you encounter issues with the software that prevent you from generating or exporting your quotes and estimates. We will confirm the issue before issuing a refund.
  8. Full refund: If a refund request is approved, we provide a full refund of the amount paid, including any transaction fees.
  9. Refund timeframe: After we receive your refund request and it is approved, we will initiate a refund to your original payment method. You will receive the credit within 5–10 days.
  10. You are not eligible for a goodwill refund if this is not your first payment, i.e. a subscription renewal.
  11. If you state you cancelled your subscription but were still charged, we will check our records and refund you if a valid cancellation was made. Where our records show no cancellation was completed, a refund may not be due.
  12. No refunds for free trials that convert to paid subscriptions due to failure to cancel in time.
  13. The responsibility to cancel before automatic renewal to avoid charges lies with you. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings.
  14. If you email us to cancel rather than cancelling in your account settings, please allow time before your renewal — we aim to action emailed cancellation requests within 48 hours, and cannot guarantee cancellation if less notice is given.
  15. When requesting a refund on the basis of a problem with your output, you need to explain the specific issue with what was generated.

Example scenarios

To help clarify the policy, here are some example scenarios where you will not receive a refund:

  1. After subscription renewal: You contact us after your annual subscription automatically renews, having forgotten to cancel it beforehand. You request a refund two days after the renewal has been processed. As we do not offer refunds for subscription renewals, a refund would not be due.
  2. Late refund request: You subscribe, decide the service isn't right for you, but wait until after your eligibility period to request a refund. As refund requests must be made within the applicable window, you would be ineligible due to the late request.
  3. Work already generated: Immediately after subscribing, you use the tools to generate and export several quotes, then decide the service doesn't meet your needs and request a refund. Since you have already used the service for its intended purpose without a specific issue with the output, a refund would not be due.
  4. Failure to provide a reason for dissatisfaction: You generate quotes, find them unsatisfactory, and request a refund within the eligible period, but don't specify what was wrong with the output. As our policy requires a valid reason for dissatisfaction, we may not be able to process the refund.
  5. Subscription activation following a free trial: You forget to cancel your free trial, which converts into a paid subscription. On noticing the charge, you request a cancellation and refund. As we do not offer refunds for failure to cancel a trial in time, a refund would not be due.
  6. Cancellation attempt after renewal date: You intend to cancel your annual plan but miss the renewal date, realising only after the charge appears. As we do not offer refunds for renewals that were not cancelled in time, you would not be eligible.

This policy is subject to change. We encourage you to review it periodically to be aware of any changes. Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
